Giro 2024 Favourites stage 7: For punchy ITT specialists
foto: Cor VosIt's up to the time trialists in the 7th stage of the Giro d'Italia. The route is flat until a 1.3 kilometres ramp at 11.8% emerges. The last 5 kilometres continue to rise false flat to the finish line. (Slideshow route/profile)
That steep incline begins 6.6 kilometres before the finish line. And it’s actually not entirely true that the route rises false flat after that. There are sections with much tougher gradients. For instance, a sector at 11% with 2.1 kilometres to go.
All in all, it’s a promising course. The first 34 kilometres are tailor-made for specialists who can push a big gear, and the last 6.6 kilometres are ideal for riders with a more punchy skillset. It will be challenging to come up with a pacing plan that allows you to fly over the flat roads and ensures you have enough energy left in the tank to keep pushing in the punchy finale.
