Giro 2021: Points Classification

Arnaud Demare 2020 - Giro 2021: Points ClassificationWho’ll succeed Arnaud Démare as the winner of the points competition of the Giro d’Italia? Last year, the Frechman outgunned Peter Sagan and João Almeida to take home the maglia ciclamino.

The points in the Giro’s points competition are awarded at finishes and intermediate sprints. The amount of points varies with the kind of terrain of the particular stage. Most points are given in the flat stages, followed by medium mountain and high mountain stages. The lowest amount of points are awarded in the ITTs, obviously, because these don’t feature intermediate sprints.

The distribution of points is as follows:

Maximum amounts of points at the finish: 50 – 35 – 25 – 18 – 14 – 12 – 10 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1

Medium amount of points at the finish: 25 – 18 – 12 – 8 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1

Lowest amount of points at the finish: 15 – 12 – 9 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1

The amount of points at the intermediate sprint for the maglia ciclamino (first of two sprints) is always the same: 12 – 8 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
