Giro d’Italia 2016 Stage 5: Greipel wins uphill sprint, Dumoulin retains GC lead

Stage 5 totals 233 kilometres. mostly on rolling roads. The course between Praia a Mare and Benevento is fast men's territory culminating in a slightly uphill and cobbled last kilometre. Race report
An easy start and no escapes until the foot of the Fortino. At the climb Nippo-Vini Fantini sets the pace and deliver their leader Damiano Cunego in a good position to be the first to crest. The former Giro-winner thus cements his KOM-lead.

In the drop Daniel Oss, Pavel Brutt, Amets Txurruka and Aleksander Foliforov get clear. In a wink of an eye they are 7 minutes adrift.

With 7 kms left the leaders are reeled in. At the first passage at the line Marcel Kittel has bene dropped.
