Giro 2015 Route stage 1: San Lorenzo al Mare – San Remo
Saturday, May 9, 2015 – Just like last edition the 2015 Giro d'Italia opens with a team time trial, this time along the Mediterranean coast to finish at the arrival point of La Primavera. In 17.6 kilometres riders head from San Lorenzo al Mare to San Remo.
San Lorenzo al Mare is situated at the foot of the Cipressa, well known from Milan-San Remo, however riders don’t go up that hill. Instead they go on a 17.6 kilometres ride along the Ligurian coast, making the stage 4.1 kilometres shorter than last year’s team trial. Back then Orica-GreenEdge won the race whilst birthday boy Svein Tuft was hoisted in pink. Omega Pharma came in second at 0’05” and BMC third at 0’07”.
On a cycle track
The organization brings a gimmick to the Giro by racing on a bike path along the Mediterranean coast for the complete route. Soon after the start the riders dive into a small tunnel and the first and only time point is at 9.9 kilometres in Taggia.
It’s a flat ride with no sharp bends or roundabouts, so high speeds will be guaranteed.
