The uphill party commences at the foot of the Col de la Placette. Which is a 5.9 kilometres ascent with an average gradient of 6.4%.
The riders descend towards the intermediate sprint in Saint-Joseph-de-Rivière before continuing onto an uncategorised climb of approximately 7 kilometers. The route then levels out for a bit before the Col de Porte appears. This is a 7.4 kilometres climb at 6.8%.
The riders crest the Col de Porte with 20 kilometres remaining. More than half of it flies downhill to the base of the Côte de la Frette, a 3.7 kilometres climb at 5.4%. Following 3 kilometres on the (false) flat the finish climb to Sappey-en-Chartreuse kicks in: 3.3 kilometres at 6.2%.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
