Race report
Straight after the start the peloton tackles the Côte de Naysord, where KOM-leader Cataldo is first to crest. He pushes on with De Plus, Edet, Fabbro and Verona, while De Gendt, Ravasi, Gougeard and Ammirail track them down.

Atop Col de Mouilles Edet pockets most KOM-points ahead of Cataldo. The peloton travels 2 minutes behind the front group over the summit. Cataldo leaves the breakaway and the gap widens to 3 minutes.

The front group tackles the last climb 15 seconds ahead of the peloton. Ravasi, Edet and De Plus push on together.

With 4.5 kms left Edet is the rider to be reeled in. Then Marc Soler speeds up and Adam Yates goes after him before Dan Martin counters. Leader Moscon and former-leader Kwiatkowski are dropped.

Geraint Thomas goes after the Irishman in the last km. Bardet tries to track him, but can’t hold his wheel. The Welshman pushes hard in pursuit of Martin, but falls 4 seconds short for the stage win. Yet, he can take comfort in the yellow jersey, more than 1 minute ahead of Caruso.
