Shortly after rolling down the ramp the teams race a negligible kick up before a left-turn sets them on the route to the first intermediate checkpoint in Romenay at kilometre 14. Amidst pastures and bushes the flat and straight road continues to the second intermediate point in Montpont-en-Bresse at kilometre 24.5. The course doesn’t change in the last 9.5 kilometres, so it’s perfect for a fast race. Flat roads, hardly any turns.
The Critérium du Dauphiné featured its last team time trial three years ago. The route was shorter and more hillier, and BMC edged out Astana.
