Vuelta 2024 Route stage 5: Fuente del Maestre - Seville

Vuelta a España 2024Wednesday 21 August - The riders travel from one sun scorched region to the next in the 5th stage of La Vuelta. The race sets off from in Extremadura to finish Andalucia. In Seville, to be precise. The rroute adds up to 170 kilometres.

It’s been fourteen years since La Vuelta’s last visit to the largest city of Andalucia. Seville hosted the Gran Salida in 2010 with a night time team time trial. Team HTC–Columbia took the win and Mark Cavendish was the first man in red in that edition.

The last pro-peloton finish in the streets of Seville dates back to 2017. Bryan Coquard sprinted to victory in the 4th stage of the Ruta del Sol, aka Vuelta a Andalucia.

Two years ago La Vuelta passed through Seville in the finale of the race to Tomares, just a few kilometres further. It was the race that was won by Mads Pedersen, while Primoz Roglic – second on GC at that time – crashed out after a late attack.

A sprint finish is the most likely outcome of this year’s 5th stage. The riders travel on rolling roads to a plat flat finale.

The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 6, 4 and 4 seconds.
