Race report
The battle for the breakaway keeps on raging until Diego Camargo, Harm Vanhoucke and Thymen Arensman jump clear at kilometre 30 before Chris Hamilton, Geoffrey Bouchard and Michael Storer rejoin them.

A huge chase group makes it across on the Puerto de Benilloba. On board are Sepp Kuss, Stan Dewulf, Jay Vine, Alex Aranburu, Gorka Izagirre, Jack Haig, Felix Großschartner, Jonathan Lastra, Fernando Barcelo, Jesús Herrada, Lawson Craddock, Pavel Sivakov, Simone Petilli, Andreas Kron, Steff Cras, Nelson Oliveira, Carlos Verona, Andrey Zeits, Romain Bardet, Martijn Tusveld, Kenny Elissonde, Jan Polanc and Matteo Trentin.

Several attackers lose contact on the Puerto El Collao, while Valverde, Carapaz, De la Cruz and Yates attack from the peloton. Just before Kruijswijk closes the gap Valverde hits the deck. He resumes the race, but is forced to abandon later on.

Craddock goes solo in the descent of the Collao before Sivakov and Storer track him down. The two head out together on the Puerto de Tibi.

Verona and Kron catch the two leaders on the finish climb. The Spaniard attacks several times before Storer makes the decisive move.

Meanwhile, Yates strikes on the lower slopes. Roglic, Mas, Bernal and López follow him like a shadow, but Vlasov, Ciccone, Carapaz and Landa lose contact.

Storer wins the stage, while Großschartner crosses the line 1 minute and 32 seconds later. Unfortunately for the Austrian that’s 8 seconds too late to be the new race leader. So Roglic retains the red jersey.
