Race report
Julius van den Berg and Anthony Roux are the first attackers and a large group tracks them down. On board are, among others, KOM leader Guillaume Martin, LL Sánchez, Mattia Cattaneo, Nans Peters, Pierre-Luc Perichon, Cameron Wurf, and Angel Madrazo.

Davide Formolo and Tomasz Marczynski track the leaders down in the run-in to the Alto de la Mozqueta.

As on the first two summits, Martin cements his KOM lead at the summit.

LL Sánchez and Mattia Cattaneo head out together on the Alto del Cordal. Martin chases them down in the last kilometre to crest the top in first position.

The peloton tackles the Angliru 30 seconds after the three leaders. Soler drops back on the early slopes, while the attackers are caught with 10 kilometres left to climb.

Großschartner and Valverde can’t follow the pace when the leaders enter the steep sections of the Angliru. Poel loses contact inside the last 5 kilometres.

Mas attacks 3.8 kilometres before the finish. Carthy and Carapaz rejoin the Spaniard under the banner of the last 2 kilometres. Roglic is struggling.

Carthy distances the others just before the flamme rouge to solo to victory. He crosses the line 16 seconds ahead of Vlasov, Mas and Carapaz with Roglic, Kuss and Martin another 10 seconds further behind.

Carapaz is the new race leader, 10 seconds ahead of Roglic, while Carthy moves up to third place, 32 seconds behind the red jersey.
