Tour of Lombardy 2020: Fuglsang solos to victory

Jakob Fuglsang solos to victory in Il Lombardia. He drops George Bennett in the last climb and the Kiwi finishes in second. Aleksandr Vlasov rounds out the podium. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
The breakaway finally takes shape on Colle Gallo when Joey Rosskopf attacks. James Piccoli, Aleksandr Riabushenko, Davide Gaburro, Petr Vakoc, Florian Stork and Andrea Pasqualon go with him, while Daniel Savini, Denis Nekrasov, Emmanuel Morin and Marco Frapporti bridge across later. The eleven carve out a maximum gap of 4.30 minutes.

On the Madonna del Ghisallo the peloton brings the attackers back.

The bunch reaches the Muro di Sormano together. Fuglsang, Vlasov, Evenepoel, Ciccone, Mollema, Nibali and Bennett are the first seven riders over the summit.

Evenepoel crashes in the descent.

Fuglsang attacks on the Civiglio with Bennett on his wheel. Vlasov regains contact a little later, while Mollema and Ciccone reach the summit with a 17 seconds deficit. Nibali can’t follow the pace and is out of contention.

Vlasov is dropped on the last climb before Fuglsang distances Bennett in the second part of the climb. The Dane solos to the win ahead of the New Zealander and the young Russian.
