The route climbs false flat from the start for 13 kilometres before a downhill and a flat section takes the riders to the foot of the Cairn O’Mount. It’s a stern test of 3.2 kilometres at 9.7%.
The rest of the route is not as testing, although there are two more KOM climbs along the way. Corsedardar Hill appears shortly after the Cairn O’Mount descent, while Queen’s View is the last official climb on the Tour of Britain. The riders make their way out of the village Tarland and clear of the trees on a 6% gradient. It flattens out, and even descends for a bit, until the steepest section at 6.6% appears. The road continues to snake upwards at shallower gradients.
And that’s it, as far as the climbing goes. The last 50 kilometres of the Tour of Britain are played out on rolling terrain before the route descends into Aberdeen in the last 13 kilometres.
The race finishes on Aberdeen’s Esplanade, a picturesque promenade along Aberdeen Bay.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
