Race report
Following several failed attempts Laura Asencio, Valérie Demey and Coralie Demay jump off the front at kilometre 40. The trio carves out a 2.40 minutes lead.
The lead falls below 1 minute after the first climb and ensuing gravel sector. Asencio and Demay are the remaining attackers when they re-enter the asphalt.
Demay goes solo on the next climb/gravel combination. She is almost caught with 45 kilometres remaining, but the gap bounces back to 40 seconds. The catch is made on gravel sector 3.
Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, Mavi García and Katarzyna Niewiadoma puncture on the gravel, but they make it back to the first group before the Côte de Maître Jean.
Marlen Reusser strikes with 23 kilometres to go. She tackles the Côte de Vitry with a lead of 25 seconds. García punctures again on the ensuing gravel sector. Van Vleuten also loses contact.
While García hits the deck after contact with her team car, Van Vleuten rejoins the GC group.
Alena Amialiusik goes after Reusser and both Évita Muzic and Veronica Ewers track her down. Still, the Suisse powerhouse at the front extends her lead and wins the stage 1.24 minutes ahead of the chasers.
Vos outguns the GC riders on the line to stay in the lead of the general classification.
