Race report
Kamil Gradek jumps off the front after 12 kilometres. Taco van der Hoorn, Jérémy Lecroq, Nils Politt and Matis Louvel track him down.
It comes together before Van der Hoorn goes again, this time with Mads Pedersen, Danny van Poppel, Pierre-Luc Périchon and Luca Mozzato.
Filippo Ganna counter-attacks on the Côte de Brié with Stefan Küng and Matteo Jorgenson in his wheel. Mads Pedersen, Hugo Houle, Quinn Simmons and Fred Wright round out the lead group after 50 kilometres of intense racing.
Caleb Ewan hits the deck with 70 kilometres. His team mates bring him back just before the Côte de Saint-Romain-en-Gal. And… he loses contact again. Simmons can’t follow the pace in the lead group.
The lead is hovering around 2 minutes most of the day and the chase stops with 14 kilometres to go. Moments later Pedersen strikes in the lead group. Houle and Wright jump to his wheel.
The Dane powers to a commanding sprint victory ahead of Wright and Houle. The peloton finishes more than 5 minutes later with all GC riders om board. Vingegaard stays in yellow.
