Tour de France 2021 Favourites stage 4: Sprint in Fougères

Tim Merlier - Tour de France 2021 Favourites stage 4: Sprint in Fougèresfoto: Cor VosA bunch sprint is the most likely outcome in the 4th stage of the Tour de France. Who'll show the fastest legs in the streets of Fougères? (Slideshow route/profile)

A bunch sprint in picturesque Fougères is next to certain. The Tour de France finished once before in the little town on the Brittany-Normandy border. In 2015 it was Mark Cavendish who celebrated ahead of André Greipel and Peter Sagan.

Last year’s Tour saw both Sam Bennett and Caleb Ewan take two sprint triumphs. With three wins, Ewan was the most successful sprinter in 2019.

Bennett did not start in Brest, while Ewan was forced to pull out after his crash in the finale of stage 3. So the fastest finishers of 2021 are out of contention.

Stage 3 saw Merlier sprint to a commanding victory after a perfect lead-out by his team mates.
