Tour de France 2021 Favourites stage 10: Bunch sprint in Valence

Sam Bennett 2020 - Tour de France 2021 Favourites stage 10: Bunch sprint in ValenceThe second week at the Tour de France opens with an opportunity for fast men. At 186 kilometres, the route runs on predominantly flat roads from Albertville to Valence.

Valence hosted three Tour de France stage finishes, two of these quite recent. On both occasions it came down to a fast finshers showdown, resulting in triumphs for André Greipel (2015) and Peter Sagan (2018). Odds are that a sprinter will be celebrating again on the 6th of July.

The route runs from Albertville to Valence. A demanding route through the Natural Parks of Chartreuse and the Vercors would have been an option, but instead the riders stick to the lower parts of the region. Notably, the Rhône Valley.

The entry list of the Tour de France is still provisional, so we’ll update this article later. Then again, with recent years in mind it’s not hard to pinpoint likely winners in the streets of Valence.
