Tour de France 2021 Favourites stage 10: Sprint in Valence

Wout Van Aert - Tour de France 2021 Favourites stage 10: Sprint in Valencefoto: Cor VosThe second week at the Tour de France opens with an opportunity for fast men. At 186 kilometres, the route runs on predominantly flat roads from Albertville to Valence. (Slideshow route/profile)

Valence hosted three Tour de France stage finishes, two of these quite recent. On both occasions it came down to a fast finshers showdown, resulting in triumphs for André Greipel (2015) and Peter Sagan (2018). Odds are that a sprinter will be celebrating again on the 6th of July.

The route runs from Albertville to Valence. A demanding route through the Natural Parks of Chartreuse and the Vercors would have been an option, but instead the riders stick to the lower parts of the region. Notably, the Rhône Valley.

Cavendish is the only sprinters in the Tour with a victory under his belt. In fact, he took two.
