Race report
Tosh Van der Sande and Hugo Houle jump clear early on to carve out a gap of almost 6 minutes. They are brought back with 37 kilometres remaining.
The peloton breaks on the exposed roads 12 kilometres ahead of Valence. Bol is the only sprinter to miss the move, but he returns with 7 kilometres out.
In the ensuing bunch sprint Cavendish rounds out yet another perfect lead-out by Deceuninck-QuickStep. Van Aert sits in his wheel, but he can’t come across, while Philipsen launches his sprint from too far behind.
Pogacar retains the yellow jersey.
