Race report
Ladagnous is the first and only attacker. The Frenchman opens up a gap of more than 5 minutes before Naesen, Küng, Gogl, Pöstlberger, Stuyven and Van Aesbroeck decide to go after him with 20 kilometres done. The peloton does not give them much leash.
The six are brought back and the consequence of the attack is that Ladagnous’ lead falls to 1 minute. Subsequently, the Frenchman reopens the gap to 3 minutes before he is reeled in with 43 kilometres to go.
Pöstlberger attacks with 6 kilometres out. Asgreen and Jungels track him down, but the peloton brings the attackers back with 2 kilometres out.
Van Aert opens the sprint into a slight headwind and slight incline. The strong Flandrian powers on, only to be brought back in the dying metres by Ewan, Sagan and Bennett. The Australian wins the race with a bike throw ahead of Sagan, who is relegated for dangerous sprinting.
Roglic finishes safely in the bunch to keep the yellow jersey.
