Tour de France 2016 Favourites stage 14: Sprinters or escapees

The 14th stage of the Tour de France is one of four in edition 2016 at over 200 kilometres. The parcours is mostly hilly, yet the last 50 kilometres as good as flat. Both sprinters and escapees will be eyeing up today's stage win. (Slideshow route/profile)

In the first three quarters of the race the course is hilly. This is perfect for escapees to force a considerable gap. Is the spirit in the peloton to keep them within reach, then it will be up to the sprinters in Villars as the last 50 kilometers are completely flat. Yet, it is a long and grueling stage and we are in the second week of La Grande Boucle, so it’s not obvious that the pack will keep control. If not, the escapees are off to power on to their moment of glory.

If the race boils down to a bunch sprint, we can expect the tougher fast men to come to the fore.
