Race report
Due to the 4 Beaufort head wind for most of the day, the start is given 15 minutes ahead of schedule. On top of the Côte de Puy-Saint-Martin KOM-leader De Gendt grabs the only available point.
It’s only after 28.5 kms the front group takes shape when Jérémy Roy attacks and he is accompanied by Alex Howes, Martin Elmiger and Cesare Benedetti. The quartet races to a 4 minutes lead before it stabilizes.
Howes gets dropped with 14 kms remaining, while Roy and Elmiger attack 5 kms later. Yet, they are reeled in with 3 kms to go.
In a sprint with head wind Cavendish hides behind Kittel to jump out with a perfect timing and best Kristoff and Sagan on the line.
