Tour de France 2015 Favourites stage 20 - Final chance on holy ground

Alpe d'Huez is holy ground in the Tour de France. The Dutch seem to think it is their mountain, yet we have to go back to ancient history to find the last Dutch victory in the ski-resort. In all likelihood, it will be up to the 'Big Four' in stage 20. After all the stage to Alpe d'Huez is their last chance to shine. (Slideshow route/profile)

Alberto Contador, Nairo Quintana, Chris Froome or Vincenzo Nibali? This is their last chance. Quintana put time into Froome in yesterday’s closing climb to La Toussuire, while Nibali powere to the win. The Colombian announce to go on the attack again today. Let’s hope the fireworkd will be detonated eraly in the race.

The last time the Tour de France went up to Alpe d’Huez, it was Christophe Riblon taking the win after close quarters combat with Tejay van Garderen. We are talking 2013 here, Chris Froome was leading the GC in true omnipotent style and didn’t have to worry.

As we are at the end of the Tour de France a lot of riders will be fighting for their last chance to shine. Being down on the GC means you will have the opportunity to escape and if is all goes well, a victory might be yours. Candidates are Pierre Roland, Romain Bardet, Thibaut Pinot and Andrew Talansky.

And the Dutch? If Robert Gesink, Wilco Kelderman, Bauke Mollema, Steven Kruijswijk or Laurens ten Dam are to win, expect an orange earthquake to happen on the slopes of the Dutch mountain
