Race report
Shortly after the Giorgio Cecchinel, Simone Andreetta, Cesare Benedetti, Lluís Mas, Nikolay Mihaylov and Federico Zurlo jump of the front of the peloton. They race to a maximum lead 6’55”. With 100 kilometres done the peloton start to real them in and with 9 kilometres the escapees are brought back.
It all boils down to the steep closing with sectors at 18%. Just under the top Stybar attacks and in the rolling section 2.8 kilometres he holds to it for dear life. Despite a late attack by Nibali Stybar brings the stage win home. Thanks to the 10 bonus seconds for the winner he is the new leader.
