Ruta del Sol 2016 Route stage 1: Almonaster la Real – Seville

Ruta del Sol 2016 stage 1 Wednesday, February 17, 2016 – The 1st stage in the Ruta del Sol leaves near the Spanish-Portuguese border. At 157 kilometres, the pack races from Almonaster to Sevilla. Which sprinter takes the first leader's jersey in the Ruta del Sol in 2016?

Because this is what seems the most likely scenario: a bunch sprint. In the first 125 kilometres the riders race a rolling roads with twice a 3rd category climb. Then a 15 kilometeres drop takem them to La Campiña before the flat 15 kilometres finale leads into Seville.

Seville saw the last Ruta del Sol finish back in 2014 with Gerald Ciolek taking the flowers.

Last year, it was Pim Ligthart winning the 1st stage in the Ruta del Sol. After a late attack the Dutchman managed to hold off the chasing group by 2 seconds.
