The first three KOM climbs are crammed together inside the first 35 kilometres. The riders sprint for mountain points on the Côte de Coise (1.5 kilometres at 8.6%), Côte de l’Aubépin (4.9 kilometres at 5.2%) and Côte de Trèves (2.3 kilometres at 6%). No descent after the latter, but the route continues to climb at shallow gradients for a few kilometres.
Paris-Nice then descends to the Loire Valley and remains as flat as a skating rink in the 100 kilometres that follow.
It’s only back to climbing again on the Col de Devès, a 3.6 kilometres ascent at 4.7% with the intermediate sprint at the top. Following the descent and about 10 kilometres on undulating terrain the last climb appears. The Côte d’Aleyrac is 4.5 kilometres long and averages 4.3%
There are still more than 30 kilometres remaining after Côte d’Aleyrac. First on descent, then on the flat.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 6, 4 and 2 seconds.
