Race report
A lot of movement from the start, but it takes 57 kilometres for the breakaway to take shape. On board are Davide Ballerini, Oscar Riesebeek, Mathieu van der Poel, Magnus Cort, Pascal Eenkhoorn, Stefano Oldani, Bauke Mollema, Wilco Kelderman, Gijs Leemreize, Santiago Buitrago, Matteo Sobrero, Rein Taaramäe, Michael Schwarzmann, Valerio Conti, Vincenzo Albanese, Lorenzo Rota, Will Barta, Lucas Hamilton, Simone Consonni, Nico Denz, and Andrea Vendrame.

Edoardo Zardini, Luca Covili and Davide Gabburo give it a go also. The trio chases the lead group down before the Passo del Bocco. The lead group reaches an advantage of more than 5 minutes on the climb, while Mollema is the first rider at the summit.

Rota strikes in the last 2 kilometres of the La Colleta climb. Oldani and Leemreize go after him and rejoin the Italian on descent.

The three open a 1 minute gap. Buitrago jumps off the front of the chase group on the Valico di Trensasco before Mollema, Kelderman and Hamilton track him down. The four reach the summit 40 seconds behind the leaders, while the peloton is 8 minutes in arrears.

The three leaders widen the gap on the flat run-up into Genova before Oldani powers to victory in the ensuing sprint-à-trois, besting his compatriot Rota en Leemreize. The peloton crosses the line 9 minutes later and López stays in pink.
