Giro 2022 Favourites stage 12: Strongmen sprinters, or attackers

Lennard Kamna - Giro 2022 Favourites stage 12: Climbers with fast descentfoto: Cor VosThe 12th stage of the Giro traverses three KOM summits before the finale is a predominantly flat run-up into Genova. On paper a chance for fast strongmen, while a successful breakaway is also an option.

The climbs are relatively easy. The Passo del Bocco is 6 kilometres long and goes up at 4%, although it has to be said that’s it’s the last part of a false flat of some 90 kilometres. The race starts just above sea level and the Bocco lies at almost 1,000 metres.

After the descent the riders enter yet another false flat. This one is shorter though, while the ensuing climb, La Colletta, is similar to the Bocco.

The last uphill test is of a different order. The Valico di Trensasco is 4.3 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 8.1%. The riders reach the summit 30 kilometres before the finish in Genoa.

Following the descent the last 20 kilometres of the race are flat, while sprinters should take note that the the last 500 metres run false flat uphll.
