Giro 2021 Route stage 10: L’Aquila - Foligno

Giro d'Italia 2021Monday 17 May - The 10th stage of the Giro d'Italia runs from L'Aquila to Foligno. At 139 kilometres, the route takes in 1,300 vertical metres before a pan flat finale. So gentlemen sprinters... ready, get set, go!

Virtually all climbing takes place inside the first 15 kilometres and on the Valico della Somma, an ascent with its peak after 100 kilometres of racing. The climb to start is not really a climb at all – false flat is a more appropriate description -, while the second is 7.4 kilometres long and averages 4.3%.

At the summit of the Valico della Somma there are 40 kilometres left to race. The first part is a gradual downhill before the last 25 kilometres of the route are as flat as can be.

The 2014 Giro d’Italia saw virtually the same stage, but with an extension in the first part. Back then, Nacer Bouhanni outsprinted Giacomo Nizzolo and Luka Mezgec in the streets of Foligno.

The second intermediate sprint comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds, while time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds are awarded to the first three riders on the line.
