Giro 2015: Stage 6 Favourites - Sprinters to survive hilly section

Halfway through stage 6 the Giro d’Italia offers a hilly intermezzo of around 40 kilometres peaking at an elevation of 624 metres. Sprinters who survive that section are up for glory in the streets of Castiglione della Pescaia (Slideshow route/profile)

The most successful sprinters in last year’s Giro, Marcel Kittel and Nacer Bouhanni, will not participate and Cav wis in the Tour of California. So that’s ample opportunity for the other fast men.

Of course the Italians Elia Viviani, Giacomo Nizzolo, Sacha Modolo, Fabio Felline, Matteo Pelucchi will be eyeing up today’s stage, but so are Luka Mezgec, Juan José Lobato, André Greipel, Michael Natthews, Moreno Hofland and Tom Boonen.

Given the stage profile its likely to boil down to a Greipel-Viviani clash.

*** André Greipel, Elia Viviani
** Luka Mezgec, Matteo Pelucchi, Fabio Felline
* Sacha Modolo, Michael Matthews, Tom Boonen, Moreno Hofland
