Giro 2014: Mountains in stage 19: uphill ITT to Monte Grappa
Tomorrow brings the infamous Monte Zoncolan, but today has something special in store as well with the mountain time trial to Cima Grappa, 26.8 kilometres of hell with the clock ticking.... (Slideshow route/profile)
The summit finish is at an altitude of 1,712 metres. Out of the 26.8 kilometres, the last 19.9 kilometres are going up – the Giro really loves a mountain time trial.
The first intermediate time control is at the 7.5 kilometre point in Semonzeto, precisely where the climb starts. Upon leaving the village, the road goes up and riders face 15 hairpins.
Just before the second intermediate check point – at kilometre 19 – the climb flattens somewhat. Only 7.8 kilometres to go to the finish line but the gradient rises again and kicks up to a steep 14% just before kilometre 22.
Could be a decisive climb….
