Giro 2014: Stage 19 Favourites: Mountain time-trial to suit Uran?

The Giro loves a mountain time-trial and coming late in the race, this could be decisive. (Slideshow route/profile)

Mountain time-trials are very different to flat ones, with climbers who usually struggle against the clock often putting in good performances.

Given the earlier time-trial and his climbing ability, Rigoberto Uran must start as favourite today.

Others who are strong in both disciplines include Wilco Kelderman, Cadel Evans and Ryder Hesjedal. Hesjedal and Kelderman seem to be getting stronger in the third week while Evans is fading by the day however.

The battle for podium places is reaching boiling point and Fabio Aru, Pierre Rolland, Domenico Pozzovivo and Rafal Majka are so close on GC that it’s likely we’ll see a swing in positions here. Majka would appear to be the strongest time-trial rider of the 4.

Quintana will expect to do a lot better than last weeks time-trial. Winning the stage is not beyond the yound Colombian but we expect him to merely defend pink today.
