Departure place Tain-l’Hermitage is located on the Rhône River, opposite stage 3’s arrival place Tournon-sur-Rhône. Vine-covered hills all around.
It’s not the first time in the 2016 Dauphiné the riders race on rolling roads. Two times – after 27.5 kilometres and after 93.5 kilometres – a climb is honoured with a 4th category label, but all in all the organisation has opened the way for a sprinter’s party. That said, the fast men should remember that the finale in Belley is slightly uphill.
Etixx-rider Maxime Bouet was born in Belley.
No intermediate sprints in the Dauphiné, yet at the finish time bonuses at 10, 6 and 4 seconds lay waiting for the first three riders.
