Straight from the start a long gradual climb to Al Tawi Sayh begins. Crested at an elevation of 453 metres the descent is even longer. With 25 kilometres left riders are at the foot of Al Hamriyah, one of two categorised hills in stage 2. The other one, Al Jissah, is more or less the same. With summits at around 200 metres, certainly no high mountains, but since Al Jissah is crested with 5 kilometres left teams eyeing up the stage-win could create a little momentum to drop the sprinters.
After a 4 kilometres descend the closing kilometre is flat. Today’s finale is an exact copy of last year’s stage 3’s.
At the time, Cataldo crested Al Jissah first, followed by Froome and Sagan. But André Greipel was not to be fooled and when the bunch was back together again, the German outsprinted each and everyone.
The finish is expected around 15.30 local time.
