Race report
The breakaway – Luke Rowe, Mads Pedersen, Evan Huffman, Davide Ballerini, Pawel Bernas, Michael Storer and Michael Hernandez – carves out a gap of 3 minutes before Edward Anderson jumps across halfway though the race. While the others are reeled in, the 21-year old pushes on alone until he is brought back also with 75 kilometres remaining.
Following a lot of movement, a select group battles it out on the last climb. Tejay van Garderen strikes inside the last 1.6 kilometres, while Gianni Moscon, Kasper Asgreen and Tadej Pogacar join him. The young Slovenian rider drops back in the last kilometre and when Asgreen kicks for home in sight of the line, the Dane powers to the win ahead of the new leader Van Garderen.
