Race report
KOM leader Benoît Cosnefroy, Rémi Cavagna, Simon Geschke, Tejay van Garderen, Nils Politt, Niccolò Bonifazio open up a gap early on. Daniel Martin, Alessandro De Marchi and Julian Alaphilippe bridge across.

Alaphilippe pushes on with Cavagna, De Marchi, Geschke, Cosnefroy and Martin before Soler makes it across on the Col de Ceyssat, while Cosnefroy drops back into the chase group.

A group with Pavel Sivakov, Warren Barguil, Lennard Kämna, Hugh Carthy, Daniel Felipe Martínez, David de la Cruz, Nicolas Edet, Neilson Powless, Pierre Rolland, Maximilian Schachmann, Valentin Madouas and Romain Sicard tracks the leaders down on the Col de Guéry.

Meanwhile, the peloton is out of stage contention, as they are more than 10 minutes in arrears.

Powless attacks with 40 kilometres remaining and Schachmann goes after the American. With two they push on to open up a gap of 1 minute.

Schachmann goes alone with 18 kilometres remaining and Kämna and Martínez go after him on the Col de Neronne. They reach the summit 27 seconds behind the leader. On the lower slopes, Romain Bardet and Guillauma Martin lose contact in the peloton.

On the finish climb Martínez brings back Schachmann. Kämna accelerates but without dropping the Colombian. Schachmann claws back in contention.

Martínez pushes on with the BORA team mates on his wheel. Schachmann loses contact again and Martinéz forges on. When Kämna tries to drop him in the last hundred metres, he counters the attack with a strong finish sprint.

Meanwhile, Pogacar accelerates on the lower slopes and the only one able to follow is his compatriot Roglic. The two push on to put time into their opponents and the Slovenes finish the race as the top 2 riders in the Tour de France. Bernal drops back to third place.
