The 10th stage in the 2017 Tour de France travels to Bergerac. It’s the fifth Tour presence of the town on the River Dordogne, also known as ‘Sin City’ – due to the fine wines and tobacco. On most occasions the town hosted individual time trial, but not this time.
After the riders enjoyed a rest day in Perigieux – on the river Isle -, they face a flat stage to Bergerac. Sprinters? Cross winds? Or both?
Three years ago the penultimate stage travelled the other way around. It was an individual time trial at 54 kilometres and Tony Martin powerede to glory ahead of Tom Dumoulin. In 1961 the ITT went in the same direction, albeit the stage was 75.4 kilometres – Jacques Anquetil took the flowers. In 1994, the ITT left from Bergerac and Miguel Indurain crushed his opponents, finishing 2 minutes ahead of number two, Tony Romiger, in today’s departure place: Périgieux.
The fourth Tour de France presence of Bergerac was in 2014, too, when Ramunas Navardauskas soloed to victory in ‘Sin City’ finishing 7 seconds ahead of the peloton. That stage was marked by a hillier finale, though.
The first three riders on the line take time bonuses at 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
