Liège-Bastogne-Liège Femmes 2019: Annemiek van Vleuten solos to rain-soaked victory

In cold and wet conditions Annemiek van Vleuten heads out alone on La Redoute. She wins Liège–Bastogne–Liège with a lead of almost 2 minutes over Floortje Mackaaij, while Demi Vollering wins the group sprint to finish in third. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
No break after 35 kilometres, but then Urska Bravec launches a brave solo attack. She opens up a gap of 30 seconds, but is brought back before the first climb, Côte de Wanne. Maria Novolodskaya leads around 50 riders over the top before she breaks clear on the Côte de Brune. Leah Kirchmann goes with her.

The duo widens the gap to almost 1.30 minutes Van Vleuten, Niewiadoma, Longo Borghini, Van der Breggen, Cille, Neff and Spratt rejoin them on La Redoute. Van Vleuten pushes on alone to reach the top with a lead of 20 seconds.

Deignan tracks down the chasers before she heads out alone. Longo Borghini and Langvad track her down on the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons, but the three are brought back in side the last kilometres.

Van Vleuten finishes almost 2 minutes ahead of Floortje Mackaaij, while Demi Vollering finishes in third.
