Giro 2020: Points classification

Arnaud Démare won the points competition at the 2020 Giro d’Italia. Peter Sagan finished in second, João Almeida in third. The Frechman succeeded Pascal Ackermann as the winner of the maglia ciclamino.

The points in this competition were awarded at finishes and intermediate sprints. The amount of points varied with the kind of terrain of the particular stage. Most points were given in the flat stages, followed by medium mountain and high mountain stages. The lowest amount of points were awarded in the ITT, obviously, because these didn’t feature intermediate sprints.

The distribution of points at the 2020 Giro d’Italia was as follows:

Maximum amounts of points at the finish: 50 – 35 – 25 – 18 – 14 – 12 – 10 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 (in stage 4, 6, 7, 11, and 19)

Medium amount of points at the finish: 25 – 18 – 12 – 8 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 (in stages 2, 5, 8, 10, 12, 13, and 16)

Lowest amount of points at the finish: 15 – 12 – 9 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 (in stages 1, 3, 9, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, and 21)

The amount of points at the intermediate sprint for the maglia ciclamino (first of two sprints) is always the same: 12 – 8 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
