Giro d’Italia 2016 Favourites stage 21: Yummy dessert for tough sprinters
The final stage in the 2016 Giro d'Italia ends with a criterium in the streets of Turin. All classifications will be finalized, normally there is only one win left - the stage win. In a flat stage likes this it usually is up the the fast men. (Slideshow route/profile)
Yet, last year Iljo Keijsse and Luke Durbridge managed to keep off the chasing pack and the Belgian outsprinted the Australian in the streets of Milan.
Statistically chances are next to zero for a similar scenario to unfold, so let’s assume it will be a sprinters party in Turin. If so, it will be for the toughest of the toughest among the fast men, because in order to win in Turin you must have taken a closer at all mighty mountain tops of this year’s Giro than you probably would have wished.
Multiple stage winners André Greipel and Marcel Kittel already left the Giro, same goes for Caleb Ewan and Elia Viviani. So this paves the way for other fast men. Chances are the sprint will be spiced up by the battle for the red jersey (points).
