Gent - Wevelgem 2019 - women: Kirsten Wild sprints to victory

Following a windy race with hills, cobbles and dirt road Gent-Wevelgem for women boils down to a bunch sprint. Kirsten Wild outguns Lorena Wiebes and Letizia Paternoster on the line. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
Pack still bunched after the first Baneberg/Kemmelberg/Monteberg combo and the unpaved sectors. Romy Kasper strikes on the second ascent of the Baneberg. She reaches the crest 23 seconds ahead of the main group before she is brought back ahead of the Kemmelberg.

Marta Bastianelli leads the second ascent of the Kemmelberg. Some 40 riders left on the top. Bastianelli attacks again on the last climb, the Monteberg, but the group reaches the summit together. In the flat section to Yper a number of riders regain contact.

Sofia Bertizzolo goes solo and Daniela Reis bridges across, but they are brought back in Yper.

In the ensuing bunch sprint Kirsten Wild outguns Lorena Wiebes and Letizia Paternoster.
