The climbs from the start. The ascent to Norton Summit is 9.6 kilometres long and averages 4.8%.
The rest of the race is played out on an elevation between 300 metres and 500 metres above sea level. Two climbs stand out. Checker Hill is just 1.1 kilometres long but goes up at 9.4%. It’s crested with 37 kilometres remaining, so the main thing is that it will add to the fatigue.
Corkscrew Road is expected to have a direct impact on the race results, as the summit appears 7.5 kilometres before the finish line. Moreover, it’s a hard climb of 2.3 kilometres at 9.2% and with ramps up to 24.4%. A technical downhill finish into Campbelltown tops it all off.
This Campbelltown finish was last included in 2019. Richie Porte, Wout Poels, Michael Woods and George Bennett launched an attack in the climb. Race leader Patrick Bevin brought them back in the downhill before Daryl Impey won the sprint of a reduced group. Other winners after this finale were Simon Gerrans (2016, sprint of a select group) and Cadel Evans (2014, solo).
Two intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each, while the first three riders one the line take time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
