Race report
Margot Pompanon and Susanne Andersen open up a lead in the run-up to the Aspin, but they are caught at the bottom of the ascent.
Annemiek van Vleuten accelerates 5 kilometres under the top of the Aspin. Demi Vollering and Kasia Niewiadoma follow her move. The three reach the summit 50 seconds ahead of the first chase group with yellow jersey Lotte Kopecky on board.
Niewiadoma leaves the Dutch stars behind on descent. Van Vleuten and Vollering look at each other, while the Polish rider opens up a 1 minute gap. The chasers rejoin Van Vleuten and Vollering just before the Col du Tourmalet.
Reusser sets the pace in the early slopes of the Tourmalet until they almost catch Niewiadoma. It’s only 5 seconds and then it goes out again to 50 seconds.
Kopecky, Moolman, Van Vleuten, Vollering and Labous are the first chasers inside the last 6 kilometes. Then Vollering ups the pace. She overhauls Niewiadoma with 5 kilomters to go and continues on her own.
Vollering climbs into the maillot jaune.
