Race report
A group of 34 men breaks clear at kilometre 5. Mollema, Van Avermaet, De Gendt, Trentin, Costa, Teuns, Izagirre and Boasson Hagen are the most prominent attackers. The peloton chases them for 45 kilometres before throwing in the towel. Then the gap balloons to more than 15 minutes.
The lead group splits with 30 kilometres remaining. Trentin, Van Avermaet, Izagirre, Oss, Stake Laengen, Skujins, Scully, Périchon, Gougeard, King and Asgreen are at the front. When they up the pace Gougeard, King and Scully drop back, while Trentin goes solo just before the Col de la Sentinelle.
The Italian reaches the crest half a minute ahead of Asgreen and he extends his lead in the descent. The Dane finishes in second, just ahead of Van Avermaet.
Alaphilippe stays in the race lead.
