Tour de France 2019 Favourites stage 2: TTT with yellow lining
The 2nd stage of the Tour de France serves a team time trial on an undulating course. The race is all the more interesting as the battle for the yellow jersey is raging in the background. (Slideshow route/profile)
Arguably, Jumbo-Visma, Team Sunweb, Mitchelton-Scott and Bahrain-Merida are the best teams when it comes to time trialing. Looking at their 2019 credentials, Jumbo-Visma won the UAE Tour TTT, while Mitchelton-Scott bested them on the Tirreno-Adriatico. Obviously, the strength of a team depends on its players, so Team Ineos – with Thomas, Castroviejo and Bernal – is another force to be reckoned with.
The race will be extra piquant as there is a possibility for the maillot jaune to swap shoulders. On the other hand, yellow jersey Mike Teunissen is riding for Jumbo-Visma, which is a superb time trialing squad, so extending his lead is just as likely.
