Race report
Sylvain Chavanel, Dion Smith en Michael Gogl form the breakaway after 2 kilometres. Smith is first to crest the only classified climb, Côte de Pouzauges, with the peloton 3 minutes in arrears. Gogl stops his efforts, a little later followed by Smith.

So now Chavanel is the lone leader. He extends his lead to almost 5 minutes before the peloton start to reel him in. Moments after the intermediate sprint for time bonuses he is brought back. Geraint Thomas pockets 1 second.

With 2 kms to go Gaviria and Matthews go down in a crash. A group of some ten riders power to the line. Arnaud Démare opens the sprint, but Peter Sagan overhauls him. Sonny Colbrelli misses out on the final jump to win the race, so the Slovak takes the win and the yellow jersey.
