Tour de France 2018 Favourites stage 13: Sprinters or attackers in transition stage

Stage 13 on the Tour de France is a typical transition stage. The route features a number of uphill stretches, but normally the race would come down to a bunch sprint. Yet, the best sprinters are already home, so the breakaway boys will be eyeing up their chances. (Slideshow route/profile)

The route takes in Côte de Brié (2.4 kilometres at 6.9%), Côte de Sainte-Eulalie-en-Royans (1.5 kilometres at 4.9%) and a number of non-classified climbs. All ascents are crested with tens of kilometres to go, so in theory the uphills should not worry the fast men. Yet, the Tour de France has passed the halfway mark, energy is going down, and the fastest men have left the race. It wouldn’t be the first time if the breakaway would snatch the stage honours from the jaws of a chasing peloton.
