Livarot is a hamlet of just 3,000 residents but it has a great reputation thanks to the local cheese – a pungent soft washed rind made from cow’s milk. The Tour passed through Livarot all to often, today is the first time the caravan is hosted.
Passing through a lovely rolling landscape riders head from the region Basse-Normandie to Bretagne. Right after the start the only KOM point are to be gained at a 4th category hill, and then it is waiting for the inevitable bunch sprint in Fougeres.
Two years ago stage 12 left from Fougeres to head for Tours. Marcel Kittel was the first one to cross the line.
