The Giro visited Ravenna two years ago, also to start. The race went to Modena on a route that’s as flat as the one to Verona. Démare tool the spoils, while the last finish in Ravenna dates back to 2011, when Mark Cavendish sprinted to triumph.
It has also been two years since the Giro d’Italia last visited Verona. It was the final stage, an ITT, and Richard Carapaz celebrated the overall victory in the Verona Arena, while Chad Haga won the stage.
Doubtless, it will be a sprinter who celebrates in the ‘city of love’ this time. The route is as flat as can be.
The second intermediate sprint comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds, while time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds are awarded to the first three riders on the line.
