Giro 2018 Favourites stage 7: Sprint in Praia-on-Sea

The course of the Giro d'Italia's 6th stage should fancy fast finishers. At 159 kilometres, the route is almost entirely played out on the flat. The finish is in Praia a Mare, which is Italian for Praia-on-Sea. (Slideshow route/profile)

The 7th stage in the Giro d’Italia is not very complicated. A lot of flat with an occasional uphill stretch. The toughest section begins with 20 kilometres left and rises at 4% for 4 kilometres. Following a gently undulating stretch the last 10 kilometres are on descent. Normally, the sprinters should be able to survive that 4 kilometres climb, but possibly Ulissi is eyeing up his chances. His team could put pressure on the pure sprinters, which obviously would suit stage 5 winner Enrico Battaglin also. Possibly, UAE Emirates and LottoNL Jumbo join forces on that last hill…?

If not, Elia Viviani is top-favourite. His move from Sky to QuickStep worked out well for the Italian. He won five stages ahead of the Giro before he continued his winning streak in the Giro’s first two opportunities for fast finishers. He pocketed the both 2nd stage and the 3rd stage.
