Giro 2017: Second sprint victory Gaviria, Jungels retains maglia rosa

At 159 kilometres, stage 5 of the Giro runs from Pedara to Messina. In Nibali's birthplace Fernando Gaviria outsprints his competition, while his team-mate Bob Jungels holds on to the maglia rosa. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
In the first kilometre Evgeny Shalunov and Maciej Paterski break clear to race to a lead of more than 4 minutes before the peloton takes control. The escapees are brought back with 14 kms left.

The ensuing lead-out is dominated by QuickStep’s Davide Martinelli and Maximiliano Richeze who catapult Fernando Gaviria into his second stage win in the 2017 Giro.
