Giro 2015 Stage 13: Modolo sprints to win, Aru new leader

In 147 flat and rainy kilometres riders head for Jesolo with a bunch sprint the one and only outcome. Modolo powers to the win, but the story of the day is Contador loses time to Aru due to a crash with 3.2 kilometres left. The Italian will wear pink tomorrow. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
Courteille, De Backer, Frapporti, Pineau and Zabel are first to attack and the latter three remain upfront. The pack controls the break and the gap lingers at 1 minute, until the story ends with 17 km’s left. As one troop the peloton races to the finish.

With 3.2 kilometres left a crash breaks up the pack. The first group powers on with Lampre piloting Sacha Modolo to an impressive win.

But the story of the day is Contador finishes 35 seconds down on Aru, meaning the Italian will be in pink in tomorrow’s ITT. Porte can forget about the Giro as he loses even more time than El Pistolero.
